What is an International Foundation Year?

An International Foundation Year is a modular programme that will prepare you for the first-year entry to undergraduate degree courses.

What are the entry requirements for the International Foundation Year?

You must be 17+ at the start of the programme, a High school certificate – 12 years and an English Level IELTS 5.0 or equivalent

What is a Pre-Sessional English Programme?

The Pre-sessional English courses are intensive and academically challenging courses intended to improve your English language level to meet the entry requirements for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree.

What are the entry requirements for a Pre-Sessional Programme?

You must have a minimum of IELTS 4.0 with no less than 4.0 in any skill or equivalent for entry onto a pre-sessional course.

Do I need to have IELTS to apply for an NCUK IFY or Pre-Sessional Programme?

No, you do not need to have IELTS to apply but you must meet the minimum English language requirements. We will accept Password, IELTS, TOEFL and PTE academic. The Password test can be facilitated by the European College of Malta at the agent’s office.

What documents do I need to submit with my application at ECOM?

How do I know if I am eligible for a specific course?

How can I find out my English language level?

You can take the Password test at the agent’s office

Does NCUK International Foundation guarantee progression to a degree?

To ensure you are eligible to progress on to the relevant university, you must:

  • Meet the minimum attendance requirements for your IFY course
  • Meet the University’s required progression grades for your chosen degree course – each individual degree programme has unique progression requirements.
  • Follow the academic advice and guidance of ECOM staff throughout your Foundation programme.

If you follow these guidelines, we guarantee you a conditional offer at one of the NCUK Guaranteed University.

Can I keep on studying in Malta?

Yes, with the Business Stream you can keep on studying in Malta. Official recognition for progression from the Business Stream to the following Educational Institutions in Malta has been granted:

  • MCAST University (Malta)
  • Middlesex University (Malta)
  • University of London (Malta)
  • University of Malta

What should I pack for Malta?

You should pack as much as you can physically carry. You will be spending summer and winter in Malta. Winter is quite mild but you will need a waterproof jacket, a thick jacket and night wear to keep you warm in the evening. In summer it gets warm so light clothes, swimming costumes and flipflops are good to have. You will also need plenty of sun cream and a hat during the hottest months.

Before packing all of your wardrobe in a suit case, make sure you can physically carry it! Most airlines allow 20-23 kg for checked luggage and another 5-10kg of hand luggage. Make sure you check you pre-departure guide to stick to the strict size and weight restrictions of your hand luggage.

How do I arrange airport pick up?

We can arrange airport pick up for you. We will need your flight details (flight number; time, date and airport of origin) at least 14 days prior to your arrival.

How do I apply for accommodation?

What are the visa requirements?

How do I pay my fees?

Payments can be effected:

  • by bank transfer – all banking fees are to be borne by the client (only the amount received by the School will be credited to the clients’ account); or
  • by VISA or MasterCard (an additional charge of 5% will apply).
  • by StudyPay – https://clubclass-direct-eur.studypay.co.uk/

Bank details are provided on the invoice issued by the School.

Do I need to pay a registration fee?

Yes, you will be required to pay a registration fee. This depends on which course you will be applying for.

If I do not get my visa will I get a refund?

If an entry visa is not granted and the School is informed 29 days or more before the enrollment start date, a full refund, less an administration fee of € 150.00 and courier fees (if applicable), will be sent to the student. If the School is informed 28 days or less before the enrollment start date, a cancellation fee, equivalent to the deposit paid, will be charged. No refund will be given if a student is expelled or deported.

Do I need medical insurance?

Yes, you will require a medical insurance that covers you for the whole duration of your stay.

When do I get a student card?

You will get your student card during your welcome day at ECOM.

Can I take my IELTS exam at ECOM?

Yes you will be able to take your IELTS exam at ECOM.

Can I speak to someone in my native language about my application?

At ECOM we speak quite a few languages. The following are some of them: English, Maltese, Italian, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Moroccan, Russian, Polish, Turkish, Mongolian, Japanese, Taiwanese and Chinese.

Where do your students come from?

We have welcomed students from 68 different countries from all over the world.

What is the minimum age required to study at ECOM?
